It’s official – Anthony Gordon is a Newcastle United player.
After completing his medical and posing for pictures at St James’ Park yesterday, the club have now confirmed that the England U21 international has signed a ‘long-term’ contract onTyneside.
The fee is believed to be an initial £40m which could rise to £45m after add-ons; making the 21-year-old our second most expensive signing behind Swedish striker Alexander Isak.
Here’s the official announcement video released by the club, followed by Gordon’s first words (via NUFC.co.uk) since putting pen to paper:
“Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me,”
“I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction.
“I feel like it’s a really big step. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet.
“I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.”
With bags of pace, bundles of energy and plenty of room to grow at 21, Gordon ticks several boxes for Eddie Howe.
