Anthony Gordon has signed and Harrison Ashby is set for a medical, but it looks like Newcastle United are pushing to sign one more before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
As revealed by The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle have upped their search for another midfielder after striking a deal with West Ham for Ashby.
With the right-back set to undergo a medical on Monday, it’s believed the club held discussions on Sunday morning about midfield options; specifically those who could arrive on loan.
In that department, we’ve seen the likes of Conor Gallagher, Scott McTominay and Ruben Loftus-Cheek linked, however it’s not yet clear if our ‘big six’ rivals would even consider doing us a favour; especially when both are behind us in the fight for a top four finish.
So, with Gordon in and Ashby set to follow for a fee of £3m, it looks like loan deals able to add to our engine room are now on the agenda, with Jonjo Shelvey’s proposed move to Nottingham Forest upping our need for another No 6.
We definitely need two midfielders to play at Bruno’s level to move up a level
