Newcastle United are tracking Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte, while Ryan Fraser looks set to seal a move away from St James’ Park before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
Speaking exclusively to NUFC Blog, FootballTransfers correspondent Fraser Fletcher has revealed that Ugarte is one of several holding midfielders being closely scouted by the club.
It’s unlikely that Newcastle will launch a late bid for the tough-tackling Uruguayan, but we’ve been told he is on our watchlist and a name to watch our for this summer should we fail to land a new No 6 before the window slams shut tomorrow night.
The 21-year-old was an unused substitute in Uruguay’s three games at the Qatar World Cup and started all six of Sporting Lisbon’s Champions League group fixtures this season, starring in a 2-0 win over Tottenham in September.
As for Ryan Fraser, we’ve been told that links with a late move to Everton are genuine, although there are several Premier League and Championship clubs hoping to sign the Scot.
He’s free to leave and will almost certainly find a new club before 11pm tomorrow based on the level of interest domestically.
Here’s what Fletcher told us on Ugarte and the likelihood of a late exit for Fraser:
“Ugarte is liked by Newcastle for sure.
“He’s a player they have looked at, although there is no bid, as of now, that I can confirm.
“But I do know he’s a player they like and have looked at, with this a position they are looking to strengthen – if not in this window then definitely in the summer.
“Ryan Fraser will leave. He’s been told he can leave and his agent has been working on that.
“There’s plenty of Premier League and Championship clubs keen and the Everton links are true.
“A move to Goodison Park is a real possibility over the next 24 hours.”
I would have thought that with all the money our new owners spent upgrading the training facility somebody would have fixed that **** transfer window.
It always seems to be slamming shut but nobody does anything about it!
