Ashby signs! – Announcement video, full details & first words as Toon seal deadline day deal

It’s official – Harrison Ashby is a Newcastle United player.

The club have announced that the young right-back has signed a ‘long-term’ contract at St James’ Park, with the 21-year-old signing for a reported £3m (including add-ons).

Ashby has made seven appearances for West Ham’s first-team – one in the Premier League and two in Europe – and arrives to compete with and learn from the experienced Kieran Trippier.

Here’s the announcement video released on Twitter, followed by Ashby and Eddie Howe’s first words since the deal was made official:

Speaking to NUFC.co.uk about the move, Ashby said: “I could not be happier. I can’t get the smile off my face and it’s a proud day for me and my family.

“I’m buzzing to come to the game tonight, to meet the fans and to get a taste of the atmosphere.

“I wouldn’t be here today without West Ham, so I thank all the coaches that I had from growing up to now, but I’m delighted to be here.”

Eddie Howe has also reacted to the news, saying: “Harrison is a very talented young player with a lot of potential so we are delighted to sign him.

“He has very good attributes so we are looking forward to working with him in this exciting new chapter of his career.”
