Tearful Bruno Guimaraes issues emotional statement after 2-0 defeat at Wembley – Video

Bruno Guimaraes has issued a heartfelt message to Newcastle United fans following Sunday’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final.

The Brazilian talks about his “love for the project” and the Newcastle fans he represents, vowing to lick his wounds and come back stronger to help this club reach “the top” after falling at the final hurdle to Man Utd yesterday.

He admits he is “proud, but not happy”, refusing to settle for defeat but accepting that “giving our best” is not always enough.

Our star midfielder was visibly upset after the game (watch below), showing how desperate he was to deliver a trophy for the Toon Army – who painted London black and white all weekend – yet his message is one of hope, highlighting how determined he is to be a big part of this exciting project on Tyneside.

Here’s his post-match message to Newcastle United fans, followed by a clip of him in tears after the full-time whistle:

That’s football. Not always giving our best is enough. Let’s keep walking our path in pursuit of Newcastle’s success. With delivery, dedication and love for the project and fans we represent.

Healing our wounds and moving forward in search of the top. For NUFC. For the fans.

I’m proud, but not happy. Because I’ll never accept the defeat.

“I have no words for your support. Thank you so much.”

  1. I watched an excellent podcast – High Performance with Jordan Henderson recently.

Like him of hate him Henderson is a winner & key member of a very successful Liverpool side.

He was talking about the aftermath of a defeat in a Champions League final I think it was.
The players just wanted to go to their rooms and lick their wounds – but Klopp told them all to be down in the bar.

They reluctantly went down and were all sat in a mood while drinks flowed & music played – they were all fed up.

Klopp came over and told them to cheer up – they’d made a final & now knew they were good enough to do that. This was just the beginning for them & there will be more finals.

Henderson said it was a moment he’ll never forget & it galvanise the players.

Howe & Bruno and the rest have to realise that they have given this club & fans something we haven’t had in 23 years – a cup final – a trip to Wembley!! and whilst defeat is disappointing, we are back competing in big games.

I only hope our boys can switch their disappointment to inspiration.

The fans aren’t disappointed in them, we’re proud of them.
