According to 90min, Newcastle United have identified Renan Lodi as a possible option in our search for a new left-back.
The report focuses on our ongoing interest in Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, but reveals that Lodi is also ‘on the list’ of potential targets under consideration at St James’ Park.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest after completing surprise a season-long move to the City Ground last summer from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
He was actually linked with a move to St James’ Park prior to Matt Targett’s arrival on a permanent deal, with Sky Sports confirming our interest in the Brazilian international in May last year.
Since then, Lodi has looked the part at Premier League level after making a shaky start, being one of the first names under the team sheet under Steve Cooper.
It’s unlikely to be a big factor, but it’s worth noting that the Forest full-back played with Kieran Trippier in Madrid, also lining up alongside Bruno Guimaraes during their time together at Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense. That, mixed in with his age, availability and recent performances in England may all come into our thinking.
If Tierney ends up going elsewhere or decides to fight for his place at Arsenal, the South American could be one to watch.
