Triple deal in the pipeline as Newcastle plan new contracts for first-team trio – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are hoping to tie up new contracts for trio Bruno Guimaraes, Nick Pope and Dan Burn.

Lee Ryder reports that we’re now in an ‘open dialogue’ with Bruno’s representatives and plan to make him the highest paid player at the club to fend off interest from Real Madrid.

This news comes after the club already confirmed two new deals for both Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron in recent months, showing a proactive approach from our new owners that rewards those playing a key role in Eddie Howe’s squad.

At 30, it’s safe to say Burn isn’t a long-term first-team option, especially not at left-back, but he can still be a valuable squad player and provide cover for Sven Botman.

Pope is another who is very deserving of an extension after a superb debut season, being influential on and off the pitch. Howe has praised his character, while no Premier League goalkeeper has more clean sheets this season.

Although he only signed in the summer, it can only be good news if improved terms help guarantee his long-term future on Tyneside.

  1. By giving these players new deals we are not “fending off interest”, we are increasing book value.

If Madrid come in for Bruno and we can say he’s a 120 grand a week player on a 4 year contract they have to pay big bucks to get him.
Securing the value of your assets is the dark side of the business, but it has to be done.
