Bookies rank Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs and Man Utd in top four race – Another big swing

If the latest bookies odds are anything to go by, Newcastle United are right back in the race for a top four finish.

Believe it or not, Sky Bet believe Eddie Howe’s Mags are the new favourites to finish fourth following a promising set of weekend results across the Premier League.

Man Utd (1/6) are leading the way in third, but Newcastle are now rated at 11/8 to finish in the top four, marginally ahead of Tottenham (6/4) and Liverpool (15/8).

We have two games in hand on Spurs – who are currently four points ahead of us in fourth – while Liverpool’s shock defeat to Bournemouth just 24 hours before our 2-1 win over Wolves means we’re now two clear of the Reds with a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Elsewhere, Brighton are rated as 11/2 outsiders to finish in the Champions League places, with the Seagulls slipping up on Saturday in a 2-2 draw at relegation battling Leeds.

Here’s Sky Bet’s top four odds in full:

  1. Man Utd – 1/6 (1.17)
  2. Newcastle – 11/8 (2.38)
  3. Tottenham – 6/4 (2.50)
  4. Liverpool – 15/8 (2.88)
  5. Brighton – 11/2 (6.50)
  6. Chelsea – 25/1 (26.00)

It’s very tight, but the fact bookmakers have us above Spurs and Liverpool shows how vital Sunday’s win really was. Had we drawn, the mood around Tyneside would’ve remained flat and our top four hopes slim at best, but there’s now a newfound belief that we can pull off a finish fans could’ve only dreamt of 12 months ago.
