Borussia Dortmund star emerges as bargain option for Newcastle United – Report

Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro, according to 90min.

The Portuguese international looks set to leave the Bundesliga giants on a free transfer this summer, with his contract in Germany due to expire at the end of the season.

Guerreiro is thought to have admirers in Italy and Spain, but the report states that Newcastle, Aston Villa, Wolves and Leeds are also showing interest in hope of sealing a bargain deal.

The 29-year-old has racked up some outstanding numbers during his time at Dortmund, bagging 38 goals an 45 assists in 214 appearances. He may be approaching his 30s, but a free agent move for a Champions League level left-back could appeal to Eddie Howe; who’s known to be in the market for a more forward-thinking option down that side.

This comes after The Athletic revealed that Kieran Tierney, Renan Lodi and Antonee Robinson were all on Newcastle’s radar heading into the summer, with the former recently described as a priority target as he prepares to leave Arsenal for regular game time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we pursue younger alternative to Guerreiro, yet high-quality free agents such as him may be hard to resist while we bid to improve our first-team within FFP restrictions.
