Two miss training ahead of Nottingham Forest trip as Howe issues official injury update

Yesterday, the photos published from Newcastle United’s training session on Wednesday showed no sign of Callum Wilson or Sean Longstaff.

The pair didn’t feature in any of the 48 images on the club’s official website, with Eddie Howe’s comments from this morning’s press conference appearing to back up these concerns ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

The boss has confirmed that we have a “couple of knocks” and will “wait and see who’s fit”, admitting that a “few players” have missed training following last weekend’s big win over Wolves.

He names no names, but his comments could well point to Wilson and Longstaff given they were nowhere to be seen in any of yesterday’s training photos.

Elsewhere, Howe has revealed that Anthony Gordon’s ankle issue is “slightly more serious” than first anticipated following a scan. However, it’s hoped he could still be back in time for our meeting with Man Utd on April 2nd – although the winger has “got work to do” to be fit for our first game back following the international break.

Howe on injuries ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Nottingham Forest:

Similar to last week. I think we said we have a couple of knocks.

It was an intense game last week, really intense physically so we’ve been managing and nursing a few players. We’ll wait and see who’s fit.

Nothing major, hopefully, but it’s a case of few players have missed training this week but we hope to have the majority of players available.

Howe when asked if Anthony Gordon will be fit for Man Utd on April 2nd:

“That’s the plan, we’re trying. As I said, the scan wasn’t plain sailing, it wasn’t a shoe-in. It wasn’t a week or two injury, it’s slightly more serious than that so we’re doing everything we can to get him back as quickly as possible.

“At the moment, he’s in a period where he’s staying off the grass, staying off his feet and the injury is healing. He feels good, but he’s got work to do to get back for that game [Manchester United].”
