New injury scare as NUFC star pulls out of national duty 24hrs before Nottingham Forest clash

According to Swiss outlet RTN, Fabian Schar has pulled out of Switzerland’s squad for the upcoming international break due to ‘recurring foot pain.’

It’s not clear if this knock will impact his availability for tonight’s trip to Nottingham Forest, but Howe did mention in yesterday’s press conference that we were carrying a ‘couple of knocks’ going into the game.

Switzerland are due to play friendlies against Belorussia on the 25th of March, followed by Israel three days later, so let’s hope Schar’s decision not to travel is a precautionary measure that doesn’t keep him out of tonight’s game.

The report states that he’s ‘chosen to stay’ on Tyneside to make sure he’s fit for the remainder of the season, suggesting he’d rather recover during the break than risk making his foot problem worse over two friendlies.

If Schar is not deemed fit enough to start, Jamaal Lascelles could return to the side against his former after an impressive display against Man City just two weeks ago.

The former Basel star was one of our unsung heroes in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Wolves and scored a stunner in the reverse fixture at St James’ Park, so here’s hoping he’s OK to start at the City Ground.
