Toon target bags hat-trick just 48 hours after Newcastle links resurface – One to watch?

In August last year, The Athletic revealed that Newcastle United had been keeping a close eye on Danish talent Rasmus Hojlund.

At the time, the young striker was tipped to take the next step in his career after 16 goal involvements in 21 games for Austrian side Sturm Graz.

Hojlund ended up signing for Serie A side Atalanta last summer, where his stock has continued to rise after eight goals and two assists in 15 starts so far this season.

Earlier this week, Tutto Atalanta reported that we remain very interested in the 20-year-old, stating that Newcastle are ‘willing to pay up to €50m’ for the forward compared to Erling Haaland for his unique blend of power, pace and ice-cool quality in front of goal.

A few days later, it’s easy to see why Toon scouts have been tracking the 6ft 3′ striker, as he scored a sensational hat-trick on his first start for Denmark’s senior side on Thursday night, scoring all three goals in their 3-1 win over Finland.

Following his heroics, Italian outlet Calciomercto report that we’ve been watching the player closely over the past month, suggesting our interest hasn’t gone anywhere. That said, his price tag may have rocketed once again after his latest display on the European stage. He could be one to watch over the coming months, but he won’t come cheap and will be hot property, making you wonder if we missed the boast last summer?
