Bad news for Alexander Isak, good news for Newcastle following Friday night clash

Last night, in-form Mag Alexander Isak led the line in Stockholm as Sweden looked to get their EURO Qualifying campaign off to a good start against Belgium.

However, it was a night to forget for the 23-year-old, as a Romelu Lukaku hat-trick helped sealed a 3-0 win for Domenico Tedesco’s side.

A bad night for Sweden – who are desperate to make EURO 2024 after missing out on the Qatar World Cup thanks to a play-off defeat to Poland – but Newcastle United will be relieved to see Isak came off without any injuries.

Our club record striker was replaced by a 41-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the 73rd minute and will feature again on Monday, where his country face Azerbaijan in their second qualifier.

Elsewhere, Garang Kuol scored his first goal for the Socceroos yesterday morning, Kieran Trippier helped Englan to a 2-1 win over Italy, Jamal Lewis bagged an assist in Northern Ireland’s 2-0 win over San Marino and Martin Dubravka kept a clean sheet in Slovakia’s 0-0 draw with Luxembourg.

As for Sven Botman, he’s unlikely to be recalled for Monday’s clash with Gibraltar after he and four others were forced to leave the Dutch camp with a viral infection; caused by a dodgy chicken curry!
