Newcastle officials spotted in South America as Toon scouts eye €15m winger – ESPN

According to ESPN, Newcastle United are hoping to beat two Premier League clubs to the signing of Palmeiras star Giovani.

The report claims that Toon scouts were in Brazil earlier this month to watch the 19-year-old in action, taking in their 0-0 draw with Guarani on March 5th.

However, it’s believed talent spotters at Everton have also been watching the winger closely. ESPN claim the Toffees are considering a summer bid, with Nottingham Forest also interested after failing to strike a deal for the South American in January.

The Brazil U20 international is contracted to Palmeiras until 2026 and has a £52m release clause in his contract, but the report claims that offers in excess of €15m will be considered by the Série A side.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been spotted watching a highly-rated teenager in this part of the world. Athletico Paranaense striker Vitor Roque has been linked, while Andrey Santos (Vasco de Gama) and Maximo Perrone (Velez Sarsfield) were targeted before they ended up at Chelsea and Man City, respectively.

Here’s a few clips of Giovani in action; the latest Brazilian gem we appear to be watching closely:
