Ivan Toney now on the brink of missing Newcastle’s trip to Brentford next week

If Ivan Toney picks up one yellow card in either of Brentford’s next two games, he’ll be ruled out of Newcastle’s trip to West London a week today.

As Premier League rules state, players who accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches up to and including their team’s 32nd fixture will serve a two-match ban in the competition – and Toney is currently on nine after picking up an unfortunate booking in their 2-0 win at Southampton two weeks ago.

The former Toon striker is Brentford’s top scorer on 16 goal and behind only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in the goalscoring charts this season.

He’d be a huge miss for the Bees, so we’ll have to hope the 27-year-old is booked in either of their upcoming away games against Brighton (Saturday 3pm) and Man Utd (Wednesday 8pm).

If so, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve benefited from a suspension this season, with Man Utd star Casemiro ruled out of Sunday’s game after picking up his second red card of the season.
