Dan Ashworth seals deal number five as behind-the-scenes recruitment drive continues – Report

Newcastle United have hired Arsenal’s Edward Black as a new Academy Lead Scout as Dan Ashworth continues to reshape and improve the infrastructure of the club at youth level.

Black had been working for the Gunners since June 2022 as their North of England and Scotland Emerging Talent Scout, but will now join his boyhood club, according to reports.

This is yet another new appointment for the academy following the arrivals of both Paul McLaren and Paul Midgley from Man City, while Delroy Ebanks (West Ham) and Dan Rice (Southampton) have also agreed to join our new set up to improve our domestic scouting at youth level.

Newcastle have also advertised for seven new international scouts, a Head of Emerging Talent and a Recruitment Operations Manager with the intention of becoming one of the top academies in the country in the near future.

This model looks set to be similar to that which Ashworth had set up at Brighton – and hopefully will have a similar impact on the club.
