Newcastle move confirmed on Twitter as boyhood fan seals behind-the-scenes switch

Boyhood Newcastle fan Edward Black confirmed on social media that he is joining the Magpies from fellow Premier League side Arsenal as our new academy lead scout.

The 42-year-old, who had been working as a Northern England and Scotland emerging talent scout for the Gunners, revealed how ‘excited’ he was to be joining us.

Technical director Dan Ashworth has been working hard to fix the entire infrastructure at the club with the improvement of the academy being of great importance to the former Brighton man.

Black has previously worked in a similar role for both Wolves and Norwich, although he has always remained based in the North East.

The club look set to continue adding to our scouting team and improving the quality of our staff in order to ensure we can bring through some of the best young talent in the world.

Here’s the Black has had to say on Twitter:

I’d like to share that I’m starting my new position of Professional Lead Academy Scout @NUFC Football Club. I would like to thank everyone at @Arsenal it was a pleasure working at such a great club. Excited to be working for the club I support and being part of the project .
