New signing imminent as 18-year-old talent arrives on Tyneside to complete Newcastle move

Reece Byrne looks set to become the latest teenage talent to sign for Newcastle United, with the Irish goalkeeper arriving on Tyneside today to finalise a move.

The 18-year-old will join from Bohemians – currently top of Ireland’s Premier Division – and could play alongside fellow Irishman Alex Murphy in our U21 setup following his move from Galway United 12 months ago.

Byrne has been pictured at the club’s training base earlier today and could be confirmed as a Newcastle United player tomorrow.

He has played once for Bohemians at senior level and is a current Ireland U19 international, where he often plays alongside Murphy; the 19-year-old defender who’s being tipped for an U21 call-up.

This could be the first of many youngsters who arrive at our ever-improving Academy this summer, with Dan Ashworth shaking up our scouting network at youth level in recent weeks with the appointments of Paul McLaren (Man City), Delroy Ebanks (West Ham) and David Harrison (Man Utd).

Good luck Reece and welcome to Tyneside!

  1. Great pic there Olly. I recognised him immediately from the picture of the back of his head!
