Premier League ban confirmed as Newcastle look set to replace £6.5m deal – Official statement

The Premier League have announced that clubs will be banned from gambling sponsorships on the front of matchday shirts from the beginning of the 2026/2027 season.

A collective agreement was reached by all 20 clubs today, making the Premier League the first UK sports league to banish gambling companies as front-of-shirt sponsors.

This leaves Newcastle United ahead of the curve as our deal with FUN88 – worth £6.5m-per-season – is already due to expire this summer, with recent reports suggesting a new sponsor is already in the offing following links to a host of lucrative options in Saudi Arabia.

However, this will leave Brentford (Hollywood Bets), Fulham (W88), Leeds (Sbotop), West Ham (BetWay), Bournemouth (Dafabet) and Southampton (Sportsbet-io) in need of new sponsors.

Here’s the official statement released by the Premier League this afternoon:

Clubs agree to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts, the first UK sports league to do so

Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.

The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the Government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.

The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.

To assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025/26 season.
