EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle handed double boost in pursuit of long-term target Moussa Diaby

Speaking exclusively to NUFCBlog, Jacque Talbot has offered an update on the transfer front, revealing a potential boost in our ongoing pursuit of Moussa Diaby.

The Football Transfers reporter has revealed that PSG will not be competing with Newcastle for the Frenchman’s signature, refusing to pay big money for a player they sold for £13m back in 2019.

Reports in Germany claim the Ligue 1 giants have joined the race, but Talbot has been told they won’t be making a move, adding that the Bundesliga side look set to demand less than the £60m we were quoted last summer.

12 months ago, it was well documented that Diaby was a priority target in our bid to sign a right-sided winger to compete with Miguel Almiron, but we were priced out of a move and Leverkusen resisted interest after qualifying for the Champions League.

Since then, Diaby has continued to impress. He’s bagged 13 goals and nine assists so far this season and will almost certainly be sold this summer, leaving the door open for Newcastle to make a fresh move after long-term interest.

Here’s what Talbot told us about the 23-year-old:

“I have learned that Paris Saint-Germain is unlikely to pursue Moussa Diaby this summer.

“They don’t want to buy back a player for a higher price than what they sold him.

“Newcastle still have interest. The club do keep their cards close to their chest now, but the Diaby one just isn’t going away – he seems to be a popular one among fans I think it will be a lower price than what Bayer asked for last summer.”
