Triple boost emerges from Friday morning press conference as Howe addresses ASM rumours

Eddie Howe has revealed that Allan Saint-Maximin’s hamstring injury is NOT serious, insisting he should be back in action “very soon.”

It was reported yesterday that the winger was facing ‘four to six weeks’ on the sidelines, but Howe’s has confirmed that he’ll return from treatment in France next week and be back on the pitch before long.

There was also a positive update on Miguel Almiron from his press conference this morning. The Paraguayan is back in training, is “ahead of schedule” from a thigh injury and could even make tomorrow’s squad if he comes through today’s session.

Howe then offered some reassurance on Bruno Guimaraes’ ankle issues, saying the Brazilian is “fully fit” and available to face Aston Villa after rolling his ankle prior to last week’s 2-1 win at Brentford.

Here’s everything Howe had to say on the fitness front just moments ago, starting with his update on ASM:

Howe on Allan Saint-Maximin:

“We said at the time I don’t think it’s a serious injury.

“He’s away getting treatment at the moment. He’s not with us. Hopefully, at some stage next week he’ll come back and be available very soon.

“I’m comfortable with it (his trip to France). I always have been. I’m a firm believer that you don’t have to be in Newcastle to get the best treatment possible.

“It’s always about how can the player comeback as quickly as possible in the best physical condition. If that means going away to see someone you’ve worked with before, and you really like, I’ve got no issue with it.

“We do send a staff member with him, so he’s not alone. That staff member is thinking of Newcastle United.”

Howe on Miguel Almiron:

“He’s done really well. He’s ahead of schedule at the moment. Fingers crossed, he gets through training, and could be available very soon.

“It’s a possibility (that he features tomorrow). I think we’ll need to see how he trains today. He’s had limited training time. But he’s looked really good.”

Howe on Bruno Guimaraes’ fitness:

“He’s twisted his ankle (in the warm-up at Brentford), it hurt a lot initially and then he’s fine to play.

There is an ongoing issue there but he’s fully fit and hopefully that continues. The medical team have worked with him.”
