According to a report from 90min, Newcastle have reignited their interest in Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda after sending scouts to watch the defender last month.
It’s believed club officials were at the Mestalla Stadium last Thursday, where the right-back played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Valencia.
We were heavily linked with the 18-year-old back in January but will face competition from Aston Villa and Arsenal; two clubs who also had representatives watching the youngster.
Fresneda has made 18 appearances in La Liga so far this season, is continuing to grow and impress and looks to have generated even more interest than in the previous window.
Although we signed Harrison Ashby instead, the full-back has not made a first-team appearance yet and it seems as though this is still a position that Howe would like to add quality in depth in.
Newcastle will face a tough challenge to beat Arsenal to the youngster, but with Champions League football on the horizon and a very bright future, we’re certainly in a strong position.
