Newcastle scout spotted in Italy to watch Serie A left-back – Report

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United scouts were in Monza over the weekend to watch Brazilian defender Carlos Augusto.

This comes from Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, who claims that a Toon representative was in the stands to watch the left-back in Monza’s 2-0 win over Napoli on Sunday afternoon.

Augusto played the full 90 minutes at wing-back, helping his side to a clean sheet and impressive win over the newly crowned Serie A champions. He can also operate at centre-back and has weighed in with six goals and five assists in 32 appearances this season.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with the highly-rated full-back, as Calciomercato claimed last Thursday that we were preparing to make an end-of-season bid for the 24-year-old.

It’s been well documented that Eddie Howe will be in the market for another left-back this summer. Dan Burn has done a brilliant job this season, but he’s shown his limitations in recent weeks and struggled in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Leeds.
