£40m man keen to join Newcastle and PL rivals prepared to sanction £30m move – Report

According to new reports, Harvey Barnes is keen to seal a summer move to St James’ Park following interest from Eddie Howe.

This comes from Football Insider, who claim that the Newcastle United boss has shown interest in Barnes and Leicester City teammate James Maddison.

The same outlet has also shared an update on Kieran Tierney, stating that Arsenal are ‘happy to sell’ the 25-year-old to Newcastle – providing we pay their £30m asking price.

Back to Barnes and Maddison, both suffered relegation on Sunday, with Leicester’s 2-1 win over West Ham was not enough to keep them up following Everton’s victory over Bournemouth.

The pair are expected to depart and it’s thought Barnes is available for £40m, leaving several clubs sniffing after his 13 goals in 34 league appearances; an impressive tally in a pretty awful Leicester side.

Time will tell if we make a move. Some will warn against bids for relegated players – an argument I never understand if the individual has shown themselves to be good enough in an otherwise poor team.

That said, there’ll be arguments against Barnes. Is he THAT much better than what we have? Is he worth £40m? Does he fit into this high-intensity side? Do we not need to be spending that money on a right-sided winger?

Who knows. A fascinating summer awaits, with relegated stars like Barnes and Maddison likely to be considered as we whittle down our final list of targets.

  1. Media munch .. Harvey barnes no chance ..not good enough and Maddison over rated .. that’s 2/11 performing in a relegated side … no thanks we need more hungry elite players like Hungarian captain, thuram, diaby etc

  2. I was wondering why Harvey’s name had not been mentioned (prominently) before.
He is just the calibre of player we need and if he and Maddison joined I think that would be a plus.
