Former Mag joins Newcastle in Champions League after incredible five-year turnaround

Former Newcastle man Massadio Haidara will also be competing in the Champions League next season after his side RC Lens finished second in Ligue 1 behind PSG.

Haidara, who made 39 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, departed in 2018 after his contract expired and joined the French side when they were in the second division.

The now 30-year-old has been integral to his new team’s success both in their promotion and qualification for the Champions League, making 140 appearances overall.

The left-back showed g promise during his time on Tyneside, but injuries prevented him from really kicking on in a black and white shirt, with one awful challenge from Wigan’s Callum McManaman being remembered for all of the wrong reasons.

Unfortunately, there will be no reunion as Newcastle and Lens will be placed in pot four, but hopefully both clubs show what they can do on the biggest stage in Europe.
