Newcastle ‘very close’ to signing midfielder with €30m release clause – Report

According to reports emerging from Spain, Newcastle are closing in on the signing of Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga.

This comes from MARCA, who claim that we’re in pole position to sign the Spanish U21 international after discovering a €30m release clause in the player’s contract.

Veiga is one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in La Liga and has also received interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, the report states that we’ve edged ahead of both – partly because Madrid are pursuing Jude Bellingham instead – and could seal a deal to bring the 21-year-old talent to St James’ Park.

The midfielder stands 6ft tall and is able to play as a holding or attacking midfielder. He’s bagged nine goals and four assists over the 2022/23 season; an impressive tally for his age, especially when Celta Vigo sit 17th in the table and at risk of relegation.

Time will tell if there’s any truth in this, but it’s not the first time he’s been linked and looks like a deal that would tick so many boxes as a young talent with big potential at a very reasonable price.
