Gabri Veiga update – New release clause revealed and huge claims from Spain prove premature?

On Wednesday afternoon, Spanish outlet MARCA claimed that Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga was ‘very close’ to agreeing a summer move to Newcastle United.

They reported that we were set to activate his €30m release clause and bring him to St James’ Park, but updates over the past 24 hours from Fabrizio Romano and The Mail suggest otherwise.

First off, Romano states that the buyout clause in his contract stands at €40m. He insists that ‘no club’ has triggered that clause or agreed terms with the 21-year-old midfielder as of yet.

However, he does add that the Premier League seems the ‘most likely destination’ for the Spanish U21 international. That leaves the door open to a potential move to Newcastle United, but claims he’s ‘very close’ to signing on Tyneside appear premature, for now.

The Mail have also reacted to those reports from Spain, denying suggestions a move is imminent despite genuine interest. They say no offer has been made as of yet, adding that Real Madrid and Man City are also admirers of the La Liga sensation.
