Newcastle’s summer budget handed another early boost as £15m deal is confirmed

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chris Wood’s £15m move to Nottingham Forest has now been made official, with contracts signed after his loan-to-buy move was officially activated.

This fee could prove to be huge for our summer budget, adding to the £38m received for finishing fourth. To get it for an ageing back-up player who we may have struggled to move on is excellent business.

Wood was one of the few signings that many people questioned under the new ownership, but in hindsight the Kiwi did a solid job for us for six months and we have now recouped over half of the £25m that we paid to Burnley in 2022.

The 31-year-old will join his former Newcastle teammate Jonjo Shelvey at the Reds permanently as we continue our overhaul of the current Toon squad to prepare for next season’s European campaign.

With Newcastle under tight FFP restrictions, £15m could prove to be the difference between a quality signing and an elite signing to really push us in the Champions League.
