Fabrizio Romano has weighed in with his information on Nicolo Barella; the Italian midfielder who has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside over the past 24 hours.
Responding to The Telegraph’s report – which claims the 26-year-old is ‘closing in’ on a £50m move to following ‘intensive talks’ over the past few days – Romano’s update is a sobering one.
He claims that Inter Milan are yet to receive a bid or formal approach from Newcastle. He insists there is very real interest from the club, but it’s his understanding that ‘nothing is advanced’ at this stage.
The Italian journalist also states that ‘Inter sources’ feel £50m is nowhere near enough, suggesting we’d have to pay considerably more to land him. Romano added that nothing has been agreed when it comes to personal terms, either. So, make of that what you will!
Here’s what Romano tweeted to his 15.6m followers late last night:
You guys who write this garbage on nearly every player going, are worse than politicians (stories after stories let’s have some facts when it’s true)

Worse than politicians? We’re Newcastle fans sharing news that’s been reported by reputable sources Keven. Absolutely ridiculous comment.
