As revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are close to sealing a €70m deal for AC Milan star Sandro Tonali.
After ‘face-to-face’ talks in Italy on Wednesday, it sounds like we are on the verge of bringing the 23-year-old talent talent to Tyneside; a huge coup for the club given he’s considered one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe.
It’s a major move by the club and another statement signing, with Tonali a deep-lying playmaker with an eye for a pass, a superb engine, quality from set pieces and tenacity in the tackle.
For anyone who hasn’t seen much of the Italian international who bagged 10 assists for Milan last season, watch the stunning highlight reel of the all-action midfielder below:
He looks a real talent and the sort of all-rounder that could work brilliantly in Howe’s high-energy system. His ability to play as a No 6 or No 8 will also appeal.
For anyone keen to get another glimpse of Tonali, he is set to captain Italy in their Under-21 European Championship opener against France tonight.
