Tonali’s first NUFC TV interview released – Watch 10-minute clip in full here

New signing Sandro Tonali has revealed why joining Newcastle ‘had to be done’, reflected on his time at AC Milan and talked about his hopes of ending the Magpies ‘ trophy drought in his first interview at the club.

There were rumours that the Italian was reluctant to leave Milan – obviously, it was his boyhood club – but while he admits it was ‘difficult’, he added that it ‘had to be done.’

He is now looking forward to what he described as a ‘great opportunity and something to take on’ as he looks to conquer the Premier League.

Tonali, who won the league with AC Milan in 2022, stated that he is relishing the chance to win a major trophy at Newcastle and that the long wait will make it ‘even nicer’.

The 23-year-old is also very excited to be playing in the Champions League once again, adding that it ‘brings out the best in players’ so hopefully he shines under the lights at St James’ Park.
