The Mail have released a series of updates on the transfer situation at St James’ Park, suggesting it could be one in two out on Tyneside over the next week.
Tom Collomosse – The Mail’s man in the Midlands – reports that Harvey Barnes is ‘edging closer’ to sealing a move to Newcastle, believing a deal worth £35-40m will go through this week if everything goes smoothly over the coming days.
This follows murmurings that Allan Saint-Maximin could be on his way to Saudi, but Craig Hope’s update on outgoings centres around Kell Watts and Jamal Lewis.
The North-East reporter reveals that Watts is set to join Wigan on a season-long loan, with the move set to become permanent one when his contract expires in 12 months time.
As for Lewis, he’s expecting to see movement over the left-back’s future after Watford registered their interest in a season-long loan move. The 25-year-old is not part of Eddie Howe’s first-team plans and is one of several fringe men we must move on to create space on the wage bill for further incomings.
