Howe issues new transfer update during Sky Sports interview in the USA – Good news

Speaking to Sky Sports, Eddie Howe has revealed that we ‘don’t need to sell to bring more in’, alleviating concerns that we don’t have the budget to secure defensive reinforcements over the fin

Many believed that selling Allan Saint-Maximin and bringing in Harvey Barnes was almost a straight swap, but Howe has insists that wasn’t the case. Instead, he suggests that one sale was ‘something we needed to do for all the transfers we’ve done’.

The imminent sale of the Frenchman – to Al-Ahli for around £30m – appears to have given us the FFP wiggle room needed due to amortisation, meaning that we can spread the fee across a number of incomings; which may be paid in installments.

Moving forwards, it seems this could be crucial as we look to sign a right-sided centre-back, a left-back and perhaps Tino Livramento at right-back, who could enable Harrison Ashby to leave on loan.

Here’s what Howe had to say when quizzed on further incoming in the USA:

“We’re really pleased with the two that we’ve done, we would love to bring a little bit more in but until that’s done it’s difficult.

We don’t necessarily need to sell to bring more in.”

“Going back to Allan, it wasn’t a straight swap for Harvey. That was something we needed to do this summer in order to do all the transfers that we’ve done.”

Jamal Lewis has left for Watford, Karl Darlow is due to seal a permanent move to Leeds and Kell Watts has joined Wigan. All three moves will help trim the wage bill and create space in the squad, but it’s good to know exits aren’t essential to allow for new additions.
