€40m defender approached by Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham – Report

According to reports in France, Newcastle United remain keen on the signing of Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.

This comes from Nice-Matin – an outlet dedicated to the Ligue 1 side – who claim that ourselves, West Ham and Aston Villa have all ‘approached’ the 23-year-old defender.

They add that he’s valued at around €40m and is bidding to be part of France’s squad for EURO 2024; meaning a big move could be on the agenda even if he’s ‘not against the idea’ of remaining with Nice.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for Todibo, who ticks so many boxes as a young, right-sided centre-back with pace and quality on the ball.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed out interest in the former Barcelona talent back in May, revealing that Newcastle, Man Utd and Liverpool scouts had all been watching the player in action over the final few weeks of the 2022/23 season.

He wouldn’t come cheap, but a move could make plenty of sense if finances allowed it, with Summer Series games highlighting our need for added pace, athleticism and depth in defence.
