Lewis Hall closing in on Premier League loan after Chelsea block Newcastle move

Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Lewis Hall, who is expected to spend the 2023/24 season on loan at Selhurst Park.

Eddie Howe is a big admirer of the left-back, seeing Newcastle enquire about the teenager’s availability this summer. However, as we revealed earlier this week, Chelsea issues a strict ‘not for sale’ response to Toon chiefs and had no interest in loaning the 18-year-old to a Premier League rival.

This created an impossible situation for Newcastle, who were told a permanent move was a non-starter and discarded as a loan option in fear of improving a top six rival.

A few days on, it looks like Hall will sign a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge before joining Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

A frustrating situation for Howe in his ongoing search for a left-back, but one we’ve encountered before, with Man Utd previously making life difficult when we attempted to sign Jesse Lingard over 18 months ago.

Newcastle remain keen on Kieran Tierney but have always been reluctant to pay Arsenal’s £35m asking price, partly due to his injury history along with our ongoing battle with FFP. As a result, the club are now prioritising a move for a right-sided centre-back and will explore left-back options available on the loan market.

  1. Saudi should have played that game before signing all their unwanted **** and letting them off the ffp hook

  2. Would City sell us Haarland?
I don’t see how this is even a story.
I’m not a great one for the “everybody hates us” paranoia but I’ll certainly go with the “none of the aspiring teams are going to let us have players so we can take their spot in Europe” theory. It just doesn’t make any sense.
If they need the money they loan to sell to an established mid-table team like Palace. Despite finishing a point above them last season even the most ardent Palace fans can’t see themselves beating Chelsea to a European place.
