Newcastle strip player of squad number and receive interest in late deal – Report

According to a new report, Celtic are showing interest in signing Newcastle United outcast Ryan Fraser.

This comes from journalist Rudy Galetti, who reveals that Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the Scotland international to Glasgow.

The 29-year-old winger has been training away from the first-team for several months now after being axed by Eddie Howe, but the release of squad numbers for the 2023/24 season show he’s been stripped of a shirt number.

He was not named in the squad list last month, as the 21 shirt was left open, then taken by Tino Livramento following his arrival from Southampton.

As we revealed last month, he takes home a hefty £75,000 per-week and is one of several fringe men the club are desperate to move on – alongside Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden – ahead of September 1st.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT here’s what Galetti said: “Celtic are interested in Ryan Fraser from Newcastle. That has been confirmed.

“They are looking for a winger. The Scottish player, who doesn’t play a central role for the Magpies, is one of the preferred names and profiles.”
