The Mail’s Craig Hope has issued an update on the transfer front as Newcastle United pursue moves for a left-back and right-sided centre-back over the final two and a half weeks of the summer winow.
The North-East reporter confirms that we are ‘exploring’ the possibility of bringing Lewis Hall to St James’ Park, with fellow Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella also discussed alongside Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.
However, it’s believed the club have reached our FFP ‘limit’ for the summer, forcing us to be ‘creative’ in the market and target potential loan-to-buy deals that allow us to sign now and pay later.
Hope adds that Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen and Antonio Silva of Benfica are ‘high on the list’ of centre-back options, but deals for either currently look ‘very unlikely’ due to the fees involved.
So, it seems the club remain active as we attempt to sign a left-back and competition for Fabian Schar over the next fortnight, but FFP and the difficulty of signing top players on a loan-to-buy basis could prove problematic. See Hope’s update below:
FFP protects clubs who have gained massive advantages before it was introduced and hinders other clubs who want to join this elite group, perhaps it should be looked at again to see how Fair it really is.
FFP is stifling what success we have had on the pitch and not allowing us to keep pace and grow in relation to our performance.
Alex Ferguson would choke if he had to give Newcastle any credit based on his latest Aston Villa comments, what more motivation do we need.

What is going on with this ffp ? Chelsea can spend over 600 million last year , now they’ve sold some players to the tune of maybe 300 million . But they’ve already spent close to that mark , where is the fairness in that ? All these top clubs should be seriously looked in to because it is having a massive effect on the lower teams . How can they ever catch up it’s impossible. The main football governing body wants to stop taking back handers off the so called big six and look for what is best for the game / competition for that is what it is and always has been . They are destroying football for the sake of there bank accounts
