Late last night, The Athletic’s David Ornstein released an update on Lewis Hall, confirming Newcastle United are now pushing ahead in our pursuit of the Chelsea left-back.
He reports that we’ve had several offers rejected this summer, but have now submitted a new bid after learning that Chelsea could sell for a fee in the region of £35m.
The Blues were previously reluctant to loan the 18-year-old to a top six rival and had no interest in selling one of their top young talents, but it seems the club have U-turned on his availability as they bid to balance the books after spending over £900m over the past three windows.
Ornstein adds that the player is keen on a move to St James’ Park and prefers to sign on a permanent deal, with the opportunity to work with Eddie Howe and play Champions League football appealing to the teenager; who is a boyhood Newcastle fan and from a family of Toon supporters.
A deal isn’t done just yet, but it’s believed any agreement would include a ‘meaningful sell-on clause’ to Chelsea. Elsewhere, talkSPORT report that we’re ‘close’ to agreeing a fee, so it really does feel like a deal heading in the right direction.
Great to see major outlets reporting on a transfer link we broke last month, especially when Hall would be a hugely exciting addition with a huge ceiling to improve under Eddie Howe.
