Loan move collapses – Player arrived for medical but transfer U-turn sees deal fall through

Isaac Hayden’s proposed move to Kenilworth Road has fallen through following a late U-turn from Luton Town.

Newcastle had accepted a loan approach from the newly promoted side and the player himself was in London to undergo a medical after agreeing to the move.

However, the Hatters have now U-turned on a deal at the 11th hour in favour or pursuing other targets. Current rules dictate that you can only sign two players on loan from Premier League clubs. One slot has already been filled by Man City’s Issa Kabore and Hayden would’ve been the second and final domestic loan deal available to Rob Edwards, but it’s emerged this morning that they’re also keen to bring in Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding.

If they don’t have the funds to sign Holding on a permanent deal and Hayden’s arrival would block any chance of a loan move for the defender, they may well have sacked off their pursuit of the Newcastle midfielder to sign Holding instead.

Time will tell, but it’s a shame for Hayden and a frustrating U-turn for Newcastle; who could do with getting a portion of his wages off the books after he’s spent the summer training with our U21s.
