Newcastle in advanced talks over fourth new deal – Report

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are in advanced talks with Fabian Schar over a new contract.

Schar’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, as things stand, but it looks like he’ll become the fourth Mag to sign a new deal over the last month, with extensions for Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn recently confirmed.

The report states that Eddie Howe is ‘desperate’ to keep the Swiss international on Tyneside, with the Toon boss and ownership group both impressed with the 31-year-old’s displays over the past 18 months.

Last week, the Swiss media reported that we have an option to extend his deal by another 12 months, but a new deal may hand the centre-back a well deserved pay rise following his performances alongside Sven Botman.

It’s likely that the club sign a younger right-sided centre-back in 2024 who is able to compete with and eventually replace Schar, but he’s aged like a fine wine since Howe arrived, delivering his best display in a black and white shirt in our 4-1 win over PSG earlier this month.
