Watch Arteta’s furious exchange with local journalists after Newcastle end Arsenal run

We rattled Mikel Arteta at the Emirates and it seems we’ve done it against this season. Speaking to journalist and Sky Sports and the local press after our 1-0 win over the Gunners, he was NOT a happy man.

The Spaniard described our winning goal as “a disgrace” that’s left him “feeling sick”, calling the decision to let Anthony Gordon’s strike stand “embarrassing.”

To clarify, beIN Sports have now confirmed that the ball was in play. Replays show Gordon was not clearly offside and also highlight no ‘clear and obvious’ foul on Gabriel, who flopped to the floor after minimal contact from Joelinton.

Watch Arteta’s rant below, showing his press conference after the game and heated post-match interview with Sky Sports:

In the end, we were the better side. We outworked and outfought an Arsenal side who only managed one shot on target.

Arteta is no stranger to throwing his toys out of the pram when things don’t go his way and he’s done it again here.

  1. Gordon was about 1m onside; the ball was clearly still in play. Havertz should have been sent off for a straight red and a second yellow. What is Arteta moaning about? He is fortunate that Havertz wasn’t punished early on.

  2. The ‘foul’ by Big Joe on Martinelli is the only area for dispute. The ball didn’t ‘quite’ go out of play and nobody was offside. If Joe leaned on Martinelli to the point he fell over it was a foul. if he touched him and he fell like a sack of potatoes, it was simulation, not a foul. VAR was not in a position to judge that so they went with the Ref. Arteta acting like a spoilt toddler is unfortunate, but a personality trait.

  3. I have to be honest, it’s a foul by big Joe imo. If it was the other way round I’d be raging it was given.

Yes Havertz challenge wasn’t good, but I’d also say Bruno should have been in more trouble for the people’s elbow on Jorginho.

But ultimately Arteta is saying VAR had a bad day – it’s them he’s criticising not NUFC – and I have to agree. Them and the ref had a terrible game. How many NUFC fans got booked off that Havertz challenge – ref had a stinker.

Good game of football though, and a big 3 points however controversial.
