Watch Jonjo Shelvey score from his own half! – Incredible goal from former Toon midfielder

Former Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has scored a stunning goal from the halfway line for his new team Çaykur Rizespor just two months after signing. Watch the stunning strike below:

The 31-year-old joined the Turkish side on loan from Nottingham Forest after a falling out with manager Steve Cooper during last season, despite only signing in January.

Shelvey will be hoping to recapture his best form over in the Super Lig – the potential was always there in his Liverpool and Swansea days, but it just felt as though the effort was never enough.

His time at Newcastle will be remembered fondly, especially for one of the most crucial goals in our recent history against Leeds, but it’s a shame to see how quickly his form has taken such a downward turn.

Despite that, after a number of halfway line efforts, it’s good to see that the former England international has finally scored one and in spectacular fashion to help his team to a 1-0 win.

  1. As a youngster, one of the best footballers I ever played with was an ex-Glasgow schoolboys player called Jimmy Hendry. His touch was unbelievable, he could lob a ball 30 yards perfectly into the stride of a sprinting team mate, and he had a deceptive burst of speed that always caught the opposition off guard.
Jimmy’s secret weapon, though, was his body language.
With his pot belly, hunched over shoulders, receding hairline, and extremely large nose he was often referred to by team mates, as the ” turtle with the shell off”.
His appearance alone suggested that he wasn’t fit, wasn’t trying and was completely cream-crackered.
Shelvey didn’t “conform” to fans’ expectations of what ” putting in the effort” should look like, but stats at the time – the spawn of Satan that they may be – showed that Shelvey was generally in the top half of the team when it came to ground covered and speed reached.
This fan’s claim that he “didn’t try is just bullshit of the highest order.
