A concerning report has emerged on the fitness front today, with Fabian Schar the latest Newcastle star at risk of injury.
According to Swiss outlet Blick, the centre-back has been forced to withdraw from tonight’s Euro qualifier against Israel due to ‘muscular problems.’
It’s worth noting that the 31-year-old went down holding his hamstring during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth, so it’s not yet clear if he’s aggravated that issue or is being rested to avoid making it worse.
The report adds that he’s currently doing ‘customised individual training’ at the team hotel, so it’ll be interesting to see if he plays in Switzerland’s final two games of the break; Kosovo at home on Saturday, followed by a trip to Romania next Tuesday.
With Sven Botman still missing with a knee injury and Dan Burn ruled out until the New Year with a back injury, let’s hope Schar comes back fully fit ahead of next Saturday’s clash with Chelsea. With 12 players already injured, suspended or carrying knocks, we couldn’t afford another setback.
