Result of second Premier League vote goes public as 7 clubs side with Newcastle

As well as voting against a ban for related-party loan deals, The Mail’s Craig Hope has revealed that Premier League clubs also voted against tougher rules on all related-party commercial deals during yesterday’s meeting.

This potential rule change, which was seen as another move to restrict Saudi-owned Newcastle, meant clubs would have to show proof of multiple offers of the same value before a deal could be struck between two parties.

It’s understood that this potential rule was also brought about to prevent our financial growth off the pitch, but the vote failed to pass after 13 of the 20 clubs voted in favour of the change.

At least 14 Premier League clubs have to agree to bring it into action and, as with the vote to ban related-party loan deals, it did not meet the required threshold.

Hope reports that the vote on loans was 12-8 in favour, with Newcastle, Man City, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Wolves, Everton and Burnley the eight clubs voting against the ban. As for any changes to related-party commercial deals, the vote came it at 13-7 in favour, but once again fell just short of the 14-club requirement.

So, that’s two desperate attempts to derail Newcastle United blocked in the space of 24 hours, leaving us free to pursue related party deals – both on and off the pitch – provided they meet fair market value.
