Sean Longstaff could become the third Newcastle United player to face a one-game suspension this season if he’s booked in his next Premier League appearance.
The midfielder – who is facing a late fitness test tomorrow – has received a yellow card in four of his last five league games, with one of those coming for his reaction to Kai Havertz’s awful challenge in our 1-0 win over Arsenal earlier this month.
Premier League rules state that anyone who picks up five bookings in the opening 19 games will receive a one-match ban, meaning Longstaff must avoid another yellow between now and our trip to Liverpool on January 1st to escape suspension.
With Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson currently out, it would be a real blow to lose the 26-year-old. Should he be cautioned in Saturday’s clash with Chelsea, he’d miss next weekend’s home game against Man Utd. If he’s booked against the Red Devils, he’ll sit out our trip to Everton on Thursday 7th December.
Elsewhere in the squad, Kieran Trippier is two bookings from a ban after picking up three so far this season, while Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Sandro Tonali have all been carded twice.
