Watch Eddie Howe’s impressive press conference from Paris – “This is a defining moment”

Newcastle United have released footage of Eddie Howe’s pre-match press conference from the Parc de Princes ahead of tonight’s crucial Champions League clash with PSG.

After issuing an injury update, where Joe Willock (Achilles) and Sean Longstaff (ankle) have been replaced by a couple of uncapped U21s, the boss hailed our 4-1 win over Chelsea, the mood within the group and explained why he chose to train at the Parc des Princes after previously opting against a session on the pitch at the San Siro and Westfalenstadion.

He accepts this is a “defining moment” in our Champions League campaign and urges his players to be “every ounce” as good as they were in our 4-1 win over the Ligue 1 giants when we last met.

Howe admits it’s “imperative we don’t lose” – we’d be out of Europe altogether with a defeat if AC Milan beat Dortmund – but made it clear we must “concentrate on what we can control and not what we can’t”.

He then discussed Lewis Miley’s hopes of starting again, backed Nick Pope’s influence on and off the pitch and was full of praise for Anthony Gordon, hailing his goal contributions and robustness to recover and go again every 2-3 days. Watch the presser in full below:
