Ruben Neves speaks out on Newcastle ‘interest’ and January rumours

Ruben Neves has ruled out a January move to Newcastle United – despite the fact we are now eligible to sign the Al-Hilal midfielder on loan after a recent related-party vote failed to pass.

Speaking to the BBC, the Portuguese international has revealed that we have shown ‘interest’ in the past, but insists he and his family are happy in Saudi Arabia and ‘having a great time’ following his summer move from Wolves.

He believes the recent rumours have come because PIF own both Newcastle and Al-Hilal, along with the fact he has Premier League experience while we search for a short-term replacement for the suspended Sandro Tonali.

Here’s what he’s had to say about our reported interest, playing down any talk of arriving at St James’ Park next month:

“I don’t go. I think that’s rumours because of the owner of the clubs of course, and because I’ve played in England as well.

“There was Newcastle interest before I came here but I’m really happy here, my family’s really happy, so I’m having a great time. Everything is going really well for me and I want to stay here.”
