Alan Shearer wowed by Newcastle signing and Gary Lineker gives seal of approval

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have been signing the praises of Tino Livramento after yet another sensational display from the full-back.

After standout displays against Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG, the former Southampton talent was outstanding performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Man Utd.

Despite liking him during his time at St Mary’s, Shearer admits he “didn’t realise how good a player he was” until he saw him in a Newcastle shirt, hailing his “huge potential” and incredible recovery from a serious knee injury.

Like Shearer, Lineker has urged Gareth Southgate to “get on the phone to him”, believing his pace, power, “great engine” and ability to play down both flanks could be a huge asset to England; especially when he’s also eligible to represent Scotland and Portugal.

Speaking on the The Rest is Football podcast, the pair had this to say on the exciting young full-back:

Gary Lineker  – “He looks a very, very talented young player. Incredibly quick, powerful, great engine up and down the line there, Alan. He is one of those players that is 21 and he is available to play for England, Scotland and Portugal.

“I think Gareth Southgate needs to get on the phone to him, I know there is no games he can play in for a little while, but you would, wouldn’t you? He plays on both sides as well and I know right-back we have lots of really great right-backs and Luke Shaw is a really good left-back but definitely a really good player for the future.”

Alan Shearer – “He has played for England at almost every level up until now. I would really hope that someone has already, and if they haven’t then they should rather quickly, get on the phone to him and tell him he has a big future in the England squad – whether that is at right-back or left-back.

“Because I am sure Newcastle bought him, they spent £30 million, and he did have a serious injury but there has always been that thing around him where he has huge potential and he’s a very good player, but I didn’t realise how good a player he was until I saw him at Newcastle, in a Newcastle shirt.

“When you consider some of the big games he has played in already this season, whether that is at right-back or like it was vs Man United at left-back, he has been absolutely sensational.”
