Newcastle considering January bid for German international – Report

According to a new report, Newcastle United are considering a January move for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.

This comes from Football Transfers, who claim that the German international has been identified as a cut-price option in our bid to bolster the back line while working within FFP restrictions.

The 27-year-old did have an £15.5m release clause in his contract which will become active again next summer,  but it’s thought the Bundesliga side are likely to demand a similar fee if we upped our interest in January.

Tah has been a regular in Leverkusen’s defence, helping them move top of the table following a stunning start to the season under Xabi Alonso. However, he’s thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League and is reluctant to sign a new deal after entering the final 18 months of his current contract.

The 6ft 4′ defender has started all but one of Leverkusen’s 16 league games this term, scoring four goals in all competitions.
