Newcastle have joined the race to sign 18-year-old Turkish striker Can Yılmaz Uzun as the Nürnberg forward grabbed a brace on Saturday in the club’s 3-0 win over Hansa Rostock in 2. Bundesliga.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg confirmed that we have sent scouts to watch the young talent who is also on the radar of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund are believed to have held “concrete” talks with Uzun recently, so it seems we’ll face competition for the teenager.
The €10m-rated talent was born in Germany, has eight goals in sixteen German second division games this season. Nürnberg sit seventh in the table, nine points off league leaders FC St Pauli.
With recent injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, it may be the case that the club looks towards a younger striker to ease the burden on the two forwards. Reports suggest Brighton and Fulham also hold interest in Uzun.
